چکیده

Because the running coupling g(T ) of QCD decreases as a function of temperature T , the SU(3) color gauge theory becomes weakly coupled in the high temperature limit. Numerical simulations of the lattice gauge theory with dynamical quarks have shown that the equation of state ǫ(T ) makes a transition from the low-temperature phase, where the effective degrees of freedom are hadrons, to a high temperature phase, where quarks and gluons can be excited independently. The transition temperature is Tc ≈ 150 MeV. Already in perturbation theory one finds that the quasiparticle excitations in the high-temperature phase are not massless. At low momenta, k < gT ≪ T (we are here considering the weak coupling limit), there are three propagating collective modes with frequency

Classical transport theory and hard thermal loops in the quark-gluon plasma.

Classical transport theory for colored particles is investigated and employed to derive the hard thermal loops of QCD. A formal construction of phase-space for color degrees of freedom is presented. The gauge invariance of the non-Abelian Vlasov equations is verified and used as a guiding principle in our approximation scheme. We then derive the generating functional of hard thermal loops from ...

Classical Kinetics of Hard Thermal Phenomena in High Temperature Qcd

Classical transport theory for colored particles is reviewed and used to derive the hard thermal loops of QCD. A perturbative study of the non-Abelian transport equations that preserves their gauge symmetry is used to compute the induced color current in a hot quark-gluon plasma. From this approach the effective action of hard thermal loops can be derived. This derivation is more direct than al...

Deriving the hard thermal loops of QCD from classical transport theory.

Classical transport theory is employed to analyze the hot quark-gluon plasma at the leading order in the coupling constant. A condition on the (covariantly conserved) color current is obtained. From this condition, the generating functional of hard thermal loops with an arbitrary number of soft external bosonic legs can be derived. Our approach, besides being more direct than alternative ones, ...

The generating functional for hard thermal loops in Quantum Chromodynamics is important in setting up a resummed perturbation theory. I review how this functional is related to the eikonal for a Chern-Simons gauge theory, and using an auxiliary field, to the gauged Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten action. The induced current due to hard thermal loops, properly incorporating damping effects, is also b...

Hard Thermal Loops near the Light-cone *

In hot gauge theories, perturbation theory at the scale of the Debye screening mass requires the resummation of the so-called hard thermal loops, which corresponds to using an effective action obtained by integrating out the modes with momentum of order of the temperature. As is well-known, quantities which are sensitive to the nonperturbative magnetic screening mass still remain incalculable i...
